Football tactics and formations

A good tactic starts with the players actually available in your squad. TacturionFC lets you combine shape, roles and instructions into a coherent match plan instead of relying on one universal setup.

Formation gives the team structure

A formation defines spacing and natural connections between defence, midfield and attack. Midfield-heavy shapes can help control central areas, while wide systems can create more space on the flanks.

Do not judge a formation only by its number of forwards. The roles, duties and attributes of individual players matter just as much.

  • match positions to player profiles
  • balance chance creation with defensive cover
  • save alternative plans for stronger and weaker opponents

Roles change player behaviour

Two players in the same position can perform different jobs. A full-back may hold position or support attacks, a midfielder can protect the centre or arrive in the box, and a striker may attack space or drop into the build-up.

Combine roles that complement one another. If several players leave the same zone at once, the opponent can exploit the space behind them.

Test the plan, not one result

Team quality, form, fitness and match events all affect the score. Evaluate a tactic across a run of games and its underlying statistics, not only the final result.

Make small adjustments and observe their effect. This makes it easier to identify which decision improved the team.
